Holter ABPM (Ambulatory Blood Pressure Machine) is used to measure the heart’s electrical activity continuously for 24 hours. Holter tool consists of two electrodes attached to the patient’s chest which is connected to a small recorder tied at the waist or shoulder, while ABPM is a tool for measuring blood pressure for 24 hours tied around the wrist of the patient. Both of these tools can be used separately or together, depending on the patient’s medical condition.
When Holter is used ?
Holter is used to detect heart abnormalities are more accurate because the tool is measuring the heart activity for 24 hours while the ECG measures only for certain times only. Holter primarily used to detect the rhythm of heart abnormalities. Cardiac activity will be recorded on the mini disc recorder will be analyzed by computer. Appearances on a computer screen like on an ECG chart. This ECG graph will be then analyzed by a heart specialist.
Are there any special preparation before installation Holter?
There is no special preparation. Patients only need a bath before going to the doctor because during Holter installed, the tool should not be wet. Also use the clothes loose for easy installation of equipment.
What to do during the use of Holter?
Patients are expected to make notes about the activity and activity time were performed on the day in detail as a source of information for physicians in diagnosing heart abnormalities. Accuracy in recording is important to support the accuracy of diagnosis.
